Our closet has seen its fair share of trends come and go. Some trends graduate into wardrobe essentials, but the basics --- that perfectly worn-in white tee, our favourite jeans, and go-to black pumps --- are forever. You can rest assured these key pieces will never go out of style or lose their street-chic appeal. Simply put, they’re the building blocks of a perfect wardrobe.

Even if you already have a majority of the products listed ahead, chances are a few of them may need a refresh (I definitely need a refresh!!). These are some most essential wardrobe staples which will never go out of style.

1. White Tee & Black Tee it doesn’t get more classic than these two clothing items. These basic tee is staple for any girl’s wardrobe. They can be styled with almost anything and compliments your personality perfectly. The best styles are super soft and have a relaxed, lived-in fit. While a crewneck cut is a no-brainer, a V-neck style works perfectly as a canvas for layering necklaces.

2. Baggy or Lightweight Sweater you can never go wrong with baggy sweaters. Styling a baggy or lightweight sweater is most easy and quick selection choice. Keep it simple! Pair it over black leggings, add ankle boots, and throw on a hat. You’re good to go basically anywhere. If your sweaters are not long enough to be wore as a dress, slip on a basic bodycon or slip dress under it with knee length boots and you are good to go.

3. Skinny Jeans Skinny Jeans are every girl holy grail! You can never go wrong with skinny jeans. The fit and wash of skinny jeans make all the difference. Go for a slightly high-rise style for length and stick to a true-blue wash that will go with everything. Long Trips, Party, Outing with friends, anything; skinny jeans got you covered girl!

4. Black Pumps This is one of those needs vs. wants things. In the food pyramid of clothing, a plain black pump falls into the veggie category, not the sweets category. Nobody really wants to eat them, but they need them to sustain a healthy body. Most people don’t really want spend a chunk of their clothing budget on a “boring” shoe like the black pump, but it’s a building block in your wardrobe. In fact, if you invest in a plain black pump now it’ll save you money in the future. When it comes to shoes, black pumps are perhaps the most reliable and versatile option out there. Sophisticated and sultry all at once, they’re perfectly suited to fit almost any outfit and occasion.

5. Cross Body Bag when you feel like your tote bag is too big but your clutch is too small, a medium-size cross body bag is a perfect solution. A cross-body bag is an essential, for more casual days, weekend and especially vacations. An easy cross-body that can fit all your stuff, but allows for hands-free shopping days, or easy grocery runs. This bag is ‘Universal’ go to bag and a must have.

6. Button Down Shirt Classic is key when keeping your wardrobe versatile and the white button down is one of most important must haves for any closet. This staple is the perfect blank slate piece. This is the wardrobe staple that can easily add a bit of polish to both your work and off-duty uniforms. You can wear it with skirts, jeans, trousers, leather leggings, you name it. It can be layered over and under and take your look from day to evening. Any woman can wear this piece because it can be conservative buttoned up or sexy if it’s worn half open. It can also be worn long to hide any undesirable areas.

7. Pencil Skirts Pencil skirts are no longer reserved for the office. You can pair this piece with a silk cami or T-shirt for drinks after work. The universally flattering piece is incredibly versatile. A darker coloured pencil skirt is the way to go since it will match anything you wear with it while also dressing up your look overall. A pencil skirt that hits at your knees or just past is often the most flattering fit for women because it highlights your curves without cutting your natural line.

8. Leather Jacket Go ahead and splurge on this outerwear essential. Trust me - the investment will be worth it. A leather jacket can be worn year-round and only gets better with age. A fitted leather jacket with a clean or even minimalist design can quickly turn into a personal pièce de résistance. This mandarin-collared, distressed leather look is easy to match with a variety of casual outfits. With this style, it’s all about the details. If you prefer a minimalist leather jacket, opt for a classic tailoring style, but look for key elements such as zipped pockets. But they're also painful and sometimes (but not every time) you need to show some mercy to your feet. When you need a break from your heels, neutral-colored flats serve as the ideal substitute. Straddling the line between dressy and casual, this functional footwear style pairs perfectly with tailored trousers or a midi dress. For moments when you don't want to lose your style quotient in the name of comfort, ballet flats are the answer (and the wardrobe classic you must invest in).
