Hello Everyone! its been a long time .... i know... i know..... i am on vacations which limits my time to D.I.Y. as all my supplies are in my dorm room and have selected things to work with; so pardon me please. Now Lets get back to the project. Entering into embroidery may seem daunting at first, but creating a patch is a great way to make a small project with some big personality and style. For this D.I.Y. there is no need of complicated embroidery stitching involved..(Unless You are good at embroidery and want to use it!). For all type of viewers i used just 2 stitching method (satin & back stitch). Lets get started!

Materials Required

  • Scrap fabric (Preferably Thick fabric)

  • Embroidery Thread (as many colors you prefer according to design; only if you are using embroidery method)

  • Embroidery Hoop

  • Fusible Interfacing

  • Printed design (Optional)

  • Thread & Neddles / Paint & Brushes

  • Iron-On Bonding Film (if You want to Make it iron on Patch)

Embroidery Patched Method

  • Stretch the fabric on hoop and draw the desired pattern using pencil on the fabric

  • Loop the thread according to thickness of line you require according to your design

  • Start by filling the inner or larger parts of the design (As shown)

  • After filling the colored spaces start outlining (note: Remember to use thread thicker than the filling so that it pops out and shows properly)

  • Cut the design from the fabric (Note: donot cut very near to the line as it can ruin the outlining of the patch)

  • After stitching is done, iron on the interfacing to give it strength and support.

  • Stick on the iron on bonding film to make it iron on patch ( Note: Read instruction according to the package)

  • Now Your embroidered patch is ready!

Painted Patched Method

  • For this type of patch, first stretch your fabric on the embroidery hoop

  • Now, draw the desired pattern on the stretched fabric using pencil.

  • Paint the design according to the desired colors.

  • After painting the design, outline using black acrylic paint (Note: Outlining depends on the color of fabric you are using & Keep in mind if your selected paint is preferable for fabric )

  • Cut the design as close to the outline as you can (without ruining it ovio!)

  • Iron the fusible interfacing on the back of design and cut the excess (Note: you can also use buckram for more steady backing )

  • Stick the iron on bonding film on the back of the design

  • Your patch is ready!

I prefer embroidered patches over painted as it gives more character but paint is more time efficient.... you can use any of these methods.

These are some of the patches i made

I hope you like this simple yes fun D.I.Y. I will try to post frequently for upcoming do it yourselfer, fashion post or others..

until then..

ADIOS!
