Hi everyone, welcome to my first blog post ever. My name is Payal Thakur and i am going to show you how to make your own customized scented candles. I still remember the day i came to hostel for first time and bought scented candles for first time (yup i m late bloomer.. ) as my best friend recommended it . One day i came hostel after my grocery shopping and realized i forgot to buy scented candles (Trust me guys it helps me great lengths to have that calm and peace around when i m working on my assignments). and thought why don't i make my own scented candles and goggled lots of blogs and saw lots of youtube videos. It seemed so easy and that moment i realized i have been wasting lot of money on these when i can easily make them on my own. So to prevent you from doing same mistakes i made i am gonna give you method to make your own scented candles and few notes to keep in mind when you make scented candles. her you go!!!

Materials Required

Soy wax or Candles

Tabbed votive wicks

Essential oils - I used Cherry Blossom and Lavender for a lovely scent

A selection of containers - I used jars, but you could use tea cups, pretty votives or anything you like that can take the heat

A vessel

A glass vessel

A funnel

A glue gun - not essential but it helps.

Sparkles (Optional)

Method

Melting wax

Start by measuring the wax flakes by filling the jar or container twice to ensure that you have enough wax to make the candle. If you are using candles, make sure you fill the glass 3-4 times as compare to flakes as a precaution.

After you have desired amount of wax, transfer all the wax into a glass vessel (you can use ceramic also but glass is much better to melt the wax in). Now, add water to the bigger vessel and place the glass full of wax in middle of the bigger vessel (Steel vessel or pan) as shown below

Now boil the water on medium to low heat (This process takes time so be patient) and make sure you keep stir in intervals to lessens the time of melting wax . (Caution: If you are under 15 or don't know how to use burner please do it under adult supervision). after boiling down to required consistency reduce the temp. to maximum low temp.

At the desired consistency, add few drops of your desired essential oils to the mixture. While, the mixture is heating on constant temp. prepare your jar by gluing the candle wick to the bottom of jar and by balancing the wick with the help of a pencil, wooden dowel or any long stick.

After, you have secured you wick in place pour your mixture in the container slowly. (don't worry about the wax on sides of container it can be removed later when it's dry). Let the wax dry for 24 hours ( just to be safe and not mess up the hard work). and voila! your own scented candle is complete..

Notes:

  • Use glass container to make the final candle

  • Use glue gun to stick wick on bottom of the container rather than using wax to stick it because when you pour hot wax in container it melts the wax on bottom and your wick will drown in candle wax

  • During melting process, make sure to maintain temp. in required stages of melting e.g. high in start and gradually reducing the temp. as wax melts.

  • Donot let the water to mix with the candle wax as it makes air bubbles and do not give proper results.

  • Make sure you do not take lots of intervals while pouring wax (until and unless you want two colors in one candle).

  • To give it a finish look scrape off the wax on sides of container (tip: save the scraped pieces for later use)

[ I used the container of the old scented candle i got as a gift if you want to buy somewhat similar jar you can visit the site below to buy
